Crowd shipping – start-up list

Jonathan Wichmann, an independent consultant focused on collaborative business ideas, has put together an interesting list of start-ups in logistics that embrases new thinking and make new solutions become reality. PiggyBee
A crowd shipping service. PiggyBee connects people who want to get or ship something with travelers.

Friendshippr
A crowd shipping app focused on getting friends to ship for you when they travel.

Barnacle
A network of more than 5000 private drivers in all the major cities in the US. A driver will post his or her driving route and get notified of any delivery requests. According to Barnacle, senders can save up to 75% off commercial shipping and freight prices – and provide their treasured possessions with a safer ride.

Nimber
A crowd shipping service enabling you to either send or bring stuff locally. So far there’s more than 16.000 Nimbers and counting. Nimber – previously Easybring – is based in Norway and so far operates in Northern Europe.

Zipments For You
A consumer-to-consumer service which is an expansion of Zipments’ retail-to-consumer platform. By connecting consumers to their 260 lifestyle couriers Zipments provides delivery from one person to another. For the ‘classic’ Zipments platform, see “Local Delivery”.

Bringrs/Trunkbird
A Danish crowd shipping service connecting people who need to ship or send something with people who are on the move and are up for making an extra buck. Both local delivery and from one end of the country to the other. Bringrs route map is particularly interesting as it’s taking all sorts of alternative routes and extra pick-ups into consideration for the ‘bringrs’.

UberCARGO
User’s first stab at a global logistics service – so far only available in Hong Kong. With UberCARGO, a van arrives wherever you want it to be in minutes. You can load your items in the back of the van yourself or request the driver’s assistance. Deliveries can be tracked in real-time through the app, the item’s location can be shared with the recipient and, if you want to, you can choose to ride along with your goods.”
