Truck´s on electrical roads in Sweden

PostNord, a logistics company in Sweden, has joined the consortium that is developing a ”electrical road solution” at Arlanda Airport.

”The ambition is that PostNord’s trucks will operate at a future elecrical road between Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Rosersberg logistics area. The consortium hopes to begin building the road in 2016.

– Our goal is to strengthen the development of the city called ”Airport City Stockholm” around Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Sustainable transport solutions that increasingly binds together the area are very important, says Fredrik Jaresved, CEO Airport City Stockholm.

The project is part of the Swedish Transport Administration’s unique pre-commercial procurement of innovation of electrical roads and it has just left the accounting for the first phase of the contract. Today there is a test track at Arlanda, and this fall the plan is to go ahead with the electrification of a two-kilometer stretch between the airport and logistics center in Rosersberg. The route will be served by many, including PostNord, trucks shuttling between the airport and logistics center in Rosersberg.

33 percent of carbon dioxide emissions in Sweden come from road transport, freight transport accounts for a third of that. Electrical roads is an effective and innovative way to achieve both the transport policy objectives and aim to become independent of fossil fuels by 2030. WSP’s calculations show that two thirds of road transports in Sweden can be performed on electrical roads by 2030, which would reduce energy consumption with about 10 TWh.”
